EU Policies for Just Transition: An Executive Perspective

The green transition is fundamentally reshaping European policies, public investment and the business environment. Understanding its implications therefore requires more than knowing the EU’s objectives and instruments – it means understanding how regulatory and policy decisions translate into real impacts on businesses, public institutions, regions and society.

This course offers a practical perspective on the green and just transition from both sides – the perspective of public policy makers and that of organisations responding to their decisions. Participants will learn to navigate relevant EU policies and financial instruments, assess their economic and social impacts, and incorporate them into strategic decision-making.

The course links the European political and economic context with concrete experiences from the public and private sectors. It focuses not only on the EU’s goals for a green and just transition, but above all on how these goals are translated into specific instruments, programs, and investment decisions, and what consequences this has for individual stakeholders.

Emphasis is placed on a practical orientation within the European context, an understanding of implementation challenges, and the ability to assess the opportunities and risks that transformation policies present to both public institutions and businesses.

The course is designed for:

employees of the state administration, local governments, and other public institutions who deal with European policies, regional development, energy, the environment, or public investments;
managers and specialists from the private sector whose work is affected by the green transition and related regulations or investment policy;
employees of regional development institutions, economic organizations, and professional associations;
consultants, project managers, and experts working with European funds, sustainability, and transformation projects;
other professionals who wish to better understand the economic and political context of just transition and its practical implications.

Prior in-depth knowledge of European law or EU policies is not a prerequisite for taking the course.

Course Format and Logistics

4 in-person sessions led by experts from both academia and the professional world combined with online activities and materials on the Moodle LMS;
4 thematic training modules focused on policies, tools, and practical aspects of a just transition;
the course combines expert instruction, real-world examples, and discussions of participants' experiences;
in-person meetings are held at the Prague University of Economics and Business;
Czech as the language of instruction;
conclusion with a micro-certificate issued by the Prague University of Economics and Business.
